It’s that time of year again – school starts back for most children this week – college campuses are busy with activity – gardens are withering – the cupboard is full of colorful vegetables and fruits from the summer’s harvest. I hope everyone had a wonderful summer. Don’t be disheartened – the closing of one season is the beginning of a new one. Autumn colors are right around the corner – cool, crisp evenings approaching fast – Wow!! This is my favorite time of the year.
Autumn always means new fabrics, patterns, books and classes at the shop. Cookie has already begun incorporating the rich, warm colors of fall into a denim shirt and jackets. Roberta is working on a wonderful log cabin quilt – where the possibilities of color are endless. Pat is adding some wonderful shades of red in her “Ruby Slipper” quilt class. And then there is Kay – anxiously waiting for the newest contemporary fabrics ordered for the shop; Kaffe Fassett and Amy Butler’s newest lines are sure to be some different shades for our shop!!
Kay will be teaching purse and tote classes this fall. Jody is working on an autumn throw from Thimbleberries as well as finishing up the Thimbleberries Block of the Month club.
If you want to preview the newest lines coming in September, October, and November just go to www.modafabrics.com and take a peek for yourself. Don’t forget to go to fabricmatcher and start designing your own project before the fabrics arrive!! Here’s a taste of what we have ordered:
Vine Creek by Kansas Troubles – A vintage floral stripe inspired the collection of “Viney” prints for this line. The name Vine Creek, is taken from a small rusty road sign remembering a tiny town in central Kansas. Vine Creek used to be a bustling cattle community with a large stockyard, restaurant, post office, hotel, livery and more. In the days of cattle drives, thousands of head of cattle were herded into Vine Creek so ranchers could ship their stock all over the country with the convenience of the railroad. Since the early 1900’s its empty, dusty streets are a sign of the changing times. (September delivery)
Blessings –
Blessed are they that give, blessed are they that receive – especially fabric. Blessings, the newest fabric line from Brannock & Patek, will have you counting yours!! Rich deep colors mingle with fresh, muted tones in florals, paisleys, and prints. Get them fast, these fabrics are a blessed event indeed. (September delivery)
Aster Manor by Three Sisters
Summerset pinks, steward yellows, crimson, linen and stone come alive in this great “Manor” collection. The Great Hall, Drawing Room, Promenade, Portico, Rose Garden, Asters, Parlor, Gentry, Ferns and Wildflowers are the names that will warmly welcome us to visit this mixture of florals, tonals and paisleys.
Rouenneries – by French General
History buffs abound in this sure to be popular collection. Quilt magazines will be showcasing these wonderful Turkey reds, Faded Reds and French Reds as well as their accompanying colors of linen, pearl, oyster and roche. Watch your magazines for some great projects for this line.
Open House will be held on Saturday, August 29th from 9:00am – 3:-00pm. Class samples, schedules and teachers will be on hand to sign you up for the fall class session. Fabric will be $1.00 per yard off; Books, patterns and notions will be 20% off – excluding class patterns and books. Remember – teachers require a minimum of five students per class session for class to be held.
Class schedules will be as follows:
Patches of Autumn – Take a denim shirt, add some fall plaid wovens, appliqué a pumpkin and a few leaves, finish off with a few hand stitches for the vine and look what a beautiful addition you have for your fall wardrobe!! Cookie Ranson will lead you through this pattern designed by Pam Puyleart for Cottage Creek Quilts. Cost: $35.00 – includes instructor fee & fabric kit. Pattern cost: $9.00. Cookie will be offering this class as either an afternoon (1:00pm-3:00pm) or evening (6:00pm till 8:00pm) Tuesday – Sept. 15, 22, 29th.
Homespun Jacket – by Primitive Gatherings – Pieced strips, flying geese, patchwork and wool appliqué come together to really showcase a magnificent fall jacket. This class is sure to fill quickly as Cookie Ranson will be instructing you on the many different steps to complete this jacket. Cost will be $45.00 – includes instructor fee & wool kit. Pattern: $10.00 Tuesday – October 13, 20, 27 & November 3rd. An afternoon class from 1:00pm – 3:00pm as well as an evening class from 6:00pm – 8:00pm.
Strikingly Simple – Another beautiful jacket – made from your choice of Moda’s honeybuns (1 ½” strips). Cookie made this jacket from the Wildflower Serenade grouping – (sorry, we’re sold out) but the newest Kansas Troubles collection Vine Creek would be equally as attractive. Cookie Ranson will be the instructor in this class on Tuesdays, November 10, 17, 24th and December 8th – again from 1:00pm – 3:00pm afternoon classes or evenings from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. Cost of class will be $40.00. Pattern - $10.00.
Ruby Slippers – by Miss Rosie – A wonderful beginner to intermediate class showcasing how color placement brings this quilt to life. Pat Habenschauss pieced this beautiful top in shades of red – to compliment the name of the pattern. Any color would bring this pattern to life!! Cost for class $40.00 – Pattern: $8.50. October 22, 29 from 10:00am – 3:00pm and November 5th from 12:30pm – 4:00pm . Pat will be highlighting her technique of half-square triangles in this project.
Snake River – designed by Judy Martin . This class is not designed for beginners, as the quilt is made of many different “Small” pieces. Roberta will be highlighting the difference in fabric grains and cutting methods. This is sure to be a very informative class for all intermediate and advanced quilters. Color placement, sizing, and overall piecing techniques will be covered in this class. Instructor: Roberta Farmer – cost $40.00 plus book. Wednesday, September 23, 30, Oct. 7th and 14th.
Neighbors Day – 2nd Thursday of each month from 10:00am – 3:00pm – Come join Millie Clinton as she guides you through many charitable quilts. Millie is working on quilts for veterans, hospice, sojourners, and other charitable needs. Please come and be a part of donating your talents to much needed causes.
Thimbleberries Fall Throw – Jody Postalwait will offer this class on Saturday afternoon following the club meeting. This will b a one afternoon session - $5.00 class on September 19th from 1:00 – 3:00pm. Picture will be posted soon. The throw utilizes preprinted panels with a few added fall Thimbleberry fabrics.

Rainy Monday
Hi everyone
Just got back to the shop from our planning meeting for next years shophop. We are off to a good start - had lots of suggestions and ideas for next years hop. It is always exciting (and a little challenging) to come up with projects and fabrics to keep everyone busy!! Don't forget - if you have any suggestions for next years shophop - NOW is the time to let us know. It does take a year in the planning stages for the statewide event to come together.
I have also been talking with Coookie, Pat, Roberta, Jodie & Kay about classes this fall. We have scheduled Open House for Saturday - August 29th - so stay tuned for updates and class info to be posted. - Again - if there are classes you would like to see offered - email me or comment here on the blog. - email address is quiltsbyphyllis@aol.com
Yes - I have heard your requests and I will be adding to our fabric lines this fall - two new designers - Amy Butler and Kaffe Fassett. I know many of you are anxious for these fabrics to come in - I will post here when they let me know of an arrival date.
Well - look like the rain's stopped for now so I am going to make a mad dash for the car - See you soon
Happy quilting!!

Bus trip being planned for October
Hi everyone!!
Just had a minute between phone calls and thought I would let you know that I am planning another bus trip to Jonesborough, TN on October 15th. I don't have confirmation from everyone yet but the itinerary will be confirmed sometime this week.
Right now it looks like we would be leaving Liberty Square around 6:30am - going to Sew What Quilt Shop in Wytheville, VA - on to Tennessee Quilts in Jonesborough and about an hour or so stop at Hamricks's (Clothing store)- then dinner of course - somewhere around Kingsport, TN. This should put us back to Teays Valley somewhere close to 10:30pm.
This will be a pretty hectic day - but if all is willing to eat a brown bag lunch on the bus - I think we can do it!!!
The cost for the trip will be $55.00 and signups will start immediately.
*****New arrivals at the shop****
14 new bolts of black & whites
25 new bolts of Moda Marbles
25 new bolts of Moda Solids
Books & Patterns
"Vine" from Moda's Kansas Troubles should be arriving next week
Don't forget to go to Moda's website and check out the "bakeshop" - I think you will really like their demos - go to http://www.unitednotions.com
We are working on class schedules for fall - Roberta, Cookie, Pat & Kay are all busy making samples - watch here for dates and times.
Hope to see you soon
